Why Natural Fibers Changed the Way I Shop for Southern Sass

I didn't start Southern Sass planning to focus on natural fibers. Honestly, it happened a little by accident...and a little because I hit menopause.

If you've ever had a hot flash, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Suddenly, the fabric you're wearing matters - a lot!

As I started shopping for the boutique, I realized two things.

  • First, there are so many beautiful options that aren't polyester.
  • Second, I discovered just how much of a difference natural fibers make. They're cooler, more breathable, and simply more comfortable to wear.

Like so many women, I still wanted clothes that felt stylish, not just practical.

At first, that led me to cotton. I fell in love with the relaxed boho styles, patchwork details, and comfortable pants that looked as good as they felt. Then I started finding beautiful rayon and viscose pieces.

And then...I discovered Italian fashion.

That completely changed my perspective.

The Italians have a way of taking natural fabrics and creating pieces that feel effortlessly elegant. They drape beautifully, feel amazing against your skin, and somehow manage to be both comfortable and polished at the same time.

Suddenly, I wasn't just finding casual weekend clothes. I was finding outfits you could wear to work, a baby shower, dinner with friends, or even a wedding, without feeling overheated halfway through the day.

Today, you'll see me talk about fabrics almost as much as I talk about style.

Linen, cotton, Tencel, rayon, and quality viscose have become some of my favorites because they breathe better, feel better, and are the pieces I naturally reach for myself. Once you've worn them through a Georgia summer - or through a hot flash - it's hard to go back.

You'll also notice that I work hard to offer these fabrics in both regular and plus sizes. Sometimes that means spending hours searching different suppliers because I don't believe beautiful, comfortable clothing should stop at a certain size.

At Southern Sass, I don't choose clothes based only on how they look. I choose them based on how they'll make you feel.

Because when you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful...people notice.
